What Are the Risks of the Abortion Pill?

The regimen commonly known as the abortion pill combines mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone blocks progesterone, the hormone a pregnancy needs to continue growing. Misoprostol is taken after and causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy. The FDA permits this regimen for up to 70 days after a woman’s last period.
