What Are My Second-Trimester Pregnancy Options?

Receiving the news that you are already in the second trimester can be shocking. Whether you are coming to terms with a later-stage discovery or you have spent the last several weeks carefully considering your options, you deserve access to comprehensive, non-judgmental information to help you determine your path forward.

Making an informed decision about your future requires understanding the physical, emotional, and legal factors at play during this stage of pregnancy. Anderson House is here to walk with you, offering lab-quality pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and professional guidance at no cost to help you navigate the journey ahead. Schedule your appointment today.

Understanding Texas Abortion Law

Under Texas Health & Safety Code (Chapter 170A), state law currently prohibits nearly all abortions, including during the second trimester, with limited exceptions outlined in the statute.

It’s also important to understand the medical limitations: the drug commonly referred to as “the abortion pill” is FDA-approved only for use through 10 weeks of pregnancy (the first trimester). Using this drug later in pregnancy or without proper medical supervision can carry serious health risks.

Parenting

Choosing to parent is a lifelong commitment that brings both profound joy and unique challenges. If you choose to carry your pregnancy to term, there is a robust and free network of support available to help you build a stable and loving environment for your child.

At Anderson House, we understand that you may be concerned about various aspects, including finances, lack of medical insurance, continuing your education, or navigating relationship challenges. We are dedicated to walking alongside you by offering practical, hands-on help, including:

  • Material support: Through our Baby Boutique, we provide free essentials for your baby, including diapers, wipes, clothing, shoes, cribs, strollers, and more.
  • Education and growth: Access parenting classes and resources at no cost to help prepare you for this new chapter.
  • Support for partners: We recognize the importance of your whole support system and offer fatherhood classes and resources for your partner as well.

Adoption

If parenting is not the right choice for you, adoption is an option that allows you to continue your pregnancy while making a plan for your child’s future. In Texas, adoption gives birth parents significant control throughout the process.

You can participate in selecting the adoptive family and choose the type of contact you feel comfortable with: open, semi-open, or closed. Adoption is provided at no cost to the birth parent. In Texas, adoptive families may cover pregnancy-related medical care, legal fees, and certain living expenses through the adoption agency.

For many birth parents, adoption allows them to make a careful, informed plan while receiving guidance and support during pregnancy and afterward.
